I’ve been enamored with the visual impact of the arches, bricks and chipped plaster that is found in these 150 year old structures, let alone the interplay of beautiful light bouncing off the walls and floor.
The images in this portfolio were captured approximately 30 years ago! They were made with a 4x5” view camera. Back then I was using pyrogallol to develop negatives. Gloves and a mask was strongly recommended to handle this highly toxic compound. It was the oldest film developer and was used by some of the great photographers of the last century as it produced beautiful negatives with ultra fine grain and a terrific tonal range!
